Mission
MLN is a political home for formerly incarcerated and directly-impacted community leaders and organizations who are organizing to dismantle systems of harm, while creating structures and ways of being that support freedom for Black people, and therefore all people. Our contribution to the movement is building strong and sustainable Black-led grassroots organizations that advance abolition and democracy in their jurisdictions and states.
Purpose
In our first six years, we have developed and supported hundreds of leaders through our training, coaching, healing support and technical assistance. We have also helped seed and nurture new, Black-led organizations.
We are proud to be a place where emerging leaders come as they are and take their first steps toward leadership. In our spaces emerging movement leaders can access the tools and internal development to matriculate into bigger roles while existing movement leaders can rejuvenate and realign their work to sustain it and increase its impact.
As of 2024, our network consists of 23 local partner organizations across 13 states: Pennsylvania, Connecticut, DC, Maryland, Georgia, Florida, Michigan, Illinois, Missouri, Texas, Arizona, Nevada and California.
