Hometown Hero Outdoors (HHO) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting military service members, veterans, and first responders by providing meaningful outdoor experiences that promote mental health, community, and resilience.
Through activities such as fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, and other outdoor adventures, we create opportunities for participants to connect with nature, build camaraderie, and find solace away from daily stresses. Our programs are designed to foster healing and personal growth, with a particular focus on addressing mental health challenges like PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
Recognizing the critical importance of mental health, HHO incorporates suicide prevention efforts into our mission. We actively engage in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) to equip our staff and volunteers with the tools needed to recognize signs of distress, provide immediate support, and connect individuals to professional resources. By proactively addressing suicide risks, we aim to save lives and offer hope to those who may feel isolated or overwhelmed.
HHO is committed to making the outdoors accessible to all our heroes, offering everything from guided group trips to personalized one-on-one outings. We collaborate with local communities, conservation groups, and outdoor enthusiasts to ensure participants not only benefit from the therapeutic effects of nature but also contribute to preserving it for future generations.
Beyond our outdoor programs, we engage in mental health advocacy by raising awareness of the unique challenges faced by those who serve and protecting their well-being through education, resources, and peer support.
Our mission is simple yet powerful: to honor and support those who have selflessly served our nation by helping them rediscover purpose, strength, and community through the healing power of the outdoors.
