The Spokane Shadle North Lions Club/Foundation performs a wide selection of service activities along with funding programs. Some of the many needs we assist through service or funding are as follows.
SERVICE AND FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES. Camp Stix is a camp for Children with Type1 Diabetes and we help sponsor children to the camp and assist in serving a meal during the week. Have assisted with clean up at end of growing season at a local community garden. Distribution of backpacks for back to School with Salvation Army, helped fund purchase of school supplies. Spokane Christmas Bureau we help register and bag toys for children. This year 27,000 individuals received assistance. Sports 4 The Blind of which some Lion club members are also members, we support them financially and help with some of their many activities. Throughout the year we collect used eyeglasses and help prepare them for recycling, this year we will collect in excess of 7,000 pairs of used eyeglasses. Young Lives a program for teenage mothers we provide a Christmas meal for mom and child which is complete with our very own Santa for Santa pictures provided by another club member. Twice a year the club provides and serve meals to families staying at local Ronald McDonald House. CARE (Cooperative Assistance Relief Everywhere) we help fund for which funds go to improving living accommodations, provide clean drinking water, teach gardening methods, helps build schools, and much more. LCIF (Lions Club International Foundation) is another Lions International program that we help fund and these funds assist with , fight against blindness, research into cause of children's cancer, again help with clean drinking water, disaster relief and much more. Our community and region have benefitted from grants a number of times in recent years do to disasters and Covid 19. Donate annually to Leader Dogs, those funds help train dogs and place them with blind individuals free of charge to recipients. Annually we help with registration of walkers that are walking to raise funds in the fight against Multiple Sclerosis. Multiple Sclerosis has a very high incident per capita here in Spokane and Spokane County. Help with sorting of food at a local food bank. Have prepared meals for the homeless both in the making of sandwich's and preparing to go bags. Donate funds to Higher Ground which is a local animal sanctuary. Donate funds to Quilts of Valor who then make quilts for local military veterans. Collect funds at local grocery store which in turn are used to research the cause of eye disease and provide cornea transplants. Donate funds to local youth so that he/she may participate in youth exchange program. Many members volunteer service outside of Lions based upon the Lions Motto "We Serve". These are a few examples but not limited to, service at local church's, volunteer hours to local animal sanctuaries, teaching handicapped individuals to ski and ride bikes plus much more. evelopmprovide individualservice
