Natural Restorations is an Arizona-based nonprofit organization focused on removing trash and graffiti from outdoor recreation and wilderness areas across the state in addition to replanting burn scar areas. We help prevent natural areas from being closed to the public through restoration and conservation projects, along with public education. We accomplish our mission by hosting volunteer cleanup events across the state to provide hands-on service learning opportunities for community members, including youth volunteers. We also manage and support a Dedicated Restoration Team with contracted Military Veterans who conduct restorations beyond the reach of most volunteers.
We believe that when children and adults take part is stewardship efforts, they develop a connection to our natural areas and a deeper understanding of what it takes to preserve them. By creating a more personal relationship with these areas through physical action, people are more likely to leave a minimal footprint in the future and to help guide others to do the same, thus keeping natural areas open and available for future generations.
Natural Restorations is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. From March 2015 to November 2017, Natural Restorations was fiscally sponsored by the Arizona Trail Association while we completed the process of obtaining our own 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. Since March 2015, we have removed more than 1.7 million pounds of trash (863+ tons) from Arizona's outdoor recreation and wildness areas. We have removed 48,220 square feet of graffiti spray that was painted on rock faces in wilderness areas. We have also planted over 82,700 trees, plants, and cacti in burn scar areas.
We have hosted over 120 cleanup events for community members, including youth volunteers under the age of 18 years old, and created hands-on service learning opportunities for more than 10,000 volunteers. We have also completed over 165 Restoration Projects with our Dedicated Restoration Team, including all of our graffiti removal projects and provided over 20,300 hours of contract work in nature to Military Veterans.
