Habitat for Humanity Sarasota is a key organization in providing sustainable solutions for affordable homeownership and critical home repairs for income-qualified individuals in our community. Since our inception in 1985, Habitat Sarasota has helped almost 500 families. This accomplishment reflects our steadfast commitment to our mission that "Everyone deserves a decent place to live."
During the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024, Habitat for Humanity Sarasota served 72 low-income individuals through its homeownership and critical home repair programs. This data underscores the growing demand for affordable housing solutions in our community. Among those served through the homeownership program, 62% were classified as low-income (earning up to 80% of the Area Median Income), 38% as very low-income (earning up to 50% of AMI), and 25% were individuals with disabilities.
At Habitat Sarasota, we provide a proven, sustainable solution to the affordable housing crisis. Our primary mission is to serve first-time homebuyers earning less than 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) by offering 30-year, 0% interest mortgages that keep homeownership within reach. Families pay no more than 30% of their gross monthly income on housing costs, aligning with HUD's affordability guidelines. This model not only ensures financial stability for homeowners but also creates a ripple effect, allowing families to invest in their futures, improve their quality of life, and break the cycle of housing insecurity.
