EVERY DAY JCOC prevents homelessness through Food Pantry, Food Box, and Community Dinner programs, helping those who don’t know where their next meal is coming from.
COMMUNITY DINNER - Monday through Friday, volunteer groups prepare and serve a free, nutritious meal to hungry and/or homeless individuals, veterans and families.
FOOD PANTRY - Free groceries (produce, meat, dairy, and baked goods) are given to individuals and families struggling with food insecurity.
FOOD BOX - Struggling Virginia Beach households can receive a free food box filled with non perishable items and fresh meat every 30 days. Food Boxes are also given to our housing clients after we help them move into permanent housing as they work to become self-sufficient.
JCOC assists single adults experiencing homelessness through Emergency Shelter, Rapid Rehousing, and Veterans Transitional and Permanent Supportive Housing programs. Since 1991, we have operated the only year round singles shelter for adults in the City of Virginia Beach. JCOC believes in Housing First - everyone is ready to be housed today.
EMERGENCY HOUSING – JCOC has the only year round shelter in Virginia Beach for single adults. The 87-bed shelter is located at the Housing Resource Center on Witchduck Road.
PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING – JCOC provides housing for 8 chronically homeless and disabled individuals. Rent equals 30% of their income. Case Management services are included.
RAPID REHOUSING – Our team helps individuals previously living in shelters or on the street find permanent housing. By working with landlords, JCOC secures affordable housing and provides Home Based Case Management for up to two years to ensure clients remain housed. Financial subsidies are offered on a case by case basis.
VETERANS TRANSITIONAL HOUSING – Sixteen veterans at a time participate in this program located in our apartment building in Virginia Beach. Individuals can stay for up to a year while being linked to VA services and receiving Housing Focused Case Management services.
