St Edward the Confessor Church

St. Edward the Confessor has been providing space pro bono for the "Our House" program and volunteer support since its inception in 2014. Our House organizers have worked closely with the NYS Office for Persons With Development Disorders and the Center for the Disabled in developing the program.

Gatherings and activities are held throughout the year both on and off site and are open to all members of the community. Activities range from bowling, picnics, movie nights, dinners at local restaurants, lake cruises, dance nights with karaoke, special celebrations for all holidays such as New Year's Eve, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, Holiday Lights bus tours, etc. complete with food and festive decorations. Classes in holiday wreath making have been offered for the past 2 years and plans for cooking classes are just one of the considerations underway for the coming year. Funding will enable the program to implement physical and art activities for adults with disabilities which studies show have proven to help them achieve their mental and physical potential.

Attendees participate in our community by collecting and distributing items and food for the homeless in our area and planning, preparing and hosting a dinner for Veteran's in honor of their service to our country. They also volunteer at community festivities in many capacities.

Volunteers are from all walks of life and share their time and talents willingly in the planning and execution of events. As an added component parents and caregivers have developed a support system with each other by their participation.
