Gaston Residential Services, Inc. (GRS) is a private, non-profit corporation established to provide long-term living arrangements and support services directed toward community inclusion for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD). In expanding its mission, purpose and goals, GRS enhanced its services to include persons who have other disabilities such mental illness or traumatic brain injury and those persons who, in addition to having a disability, may be homeless. Basing itself on the principle that persons with disabilities have the right to live the lives they choose, the Board of Directors works to establish and maintain living situations and community inclusion experiences for people with disabilities which closely resemble those of the community at large. All efforts of the organization are on behalf and in support of the people served.
Guided by the principle of self determination, the programs offered by GRS provide the people served with the opportunity to achieve their maximum potential. Each person is encouraged to achieve as much independence in all aspects of daily living as possible. An important aspect of this program is the involvement of the individual in the social, recreational, and employment aspects of his or her community.
GRS is additionally guided by the philosophy of Gentle Teaching in all interactions with individuals. Based on mutual respect, valuing, and relationship building, the Gentle Teaching approach underlies all interventions and a service provided by GRS and as such, represents the core values of GRS.
Our services can provide the education and experience needed by some individuals to live in a less restrictive environment. While active educational experiences are developed for all persons served, group living may provide the least restrictive environment for some individuals.
Gaston Residential Services demonstrates commitment to and awareness of cultural diversity and serves people without regard to race, color, religion, creed, sex, national origin, age, disability, and veteran status.
