On any given night there are over 49,000 veterans sleeping in shelters, parks, and city streets, without a permanent home in the United States. Even during the coldest time of the year that number could and is much higher. We are making a difference in this area by helping the Veterans in Calhoun and Kalamazoo counties. WE DO NOT PROVIDE FINANCIAL AID.
Veterans Helping Veterans Foundation is a 501(c) (3) Non-profit organization that is truly making a difference for our veterans, who are suffering setbacks, are homeless and need a Hand up. “Veterans helping Veterans” is ran by a small group of Retired and Disabled members of the military service who are caring, compassionate and truly understand the struggles faced when a fallen comrade is lost and homeless.
Since Our Conception from March 2011 to date we have assisted over 3,100 veterans and their families, and over 800 non-veteran members of the community through personal interaction within our communities and referrals from area agencies.
The founding members of Veterans Helping Veterans team are all Vietnam Combat Veterans, and current era veterans that have served our great nation with honor and pride. Although when they returned home and needed help, they didn’t receive such, they got together and determined that we wanted to make a difference for the future eras of service members and began instituting the organization of helping their fellow Vets and has expanded this to help others that have had setbacks such as fire or other thing happen beyond their control.
We are all Volunteers, receive no pay, nor receive any funding from local or Federal Government. We provide support in aid to the VA’s Housing Urban Development Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program. The (VOA) Volunteers of America, The Calhoun County Court system 211, and other community assistance agencies to help our veterans.
Veterans Helping Veterans excels by going above and beyond, by collecting donations of furniture and household items and many of the necessities that are needed to make a house or apartment a home. Some of the items include couches, chairs, tables, lamps, beds, dressers, etc.
Homeless veterans seeking assistance with setting up an apartment or home for the first time, or reestablishing stable housing, find they are without the basic needs like items.
Members and volunteers gather the items that a veteran and or his family needs and deliver them to their home at no charge; THIS IS A HAND UP, NOT A HANDOUT. To see them smile or catch a tear in their eye for the kindness from the heart that someone has given back to them in return, makes it all worthwhile.
Each veteran that requests kitchen items receive about $150 worth on average. Personnel hygiene items cost about $32-36 for each kit. Most of these items are purchased from donated funds.

People to help with day-to-day operations of moving furniture.
Looking for a permanent location of land or large warehouse space of between 8,000 to 12,000 sq. ft to call Home.
Also need someone that can assist in writing grants.
