The Brownwood Garden Club is currently raising funds to build a Gold Star Family Memorial Garden within the Camp Bowie Memorial Park, across from the Hendrick Medical Center.
Gold Star Families include the surviving loved ones of those who have lost their lives as a result of hostile actions against our country. As well, this national, not-for-profit organization was designed to be of support to all family members, in all branches of the United States Armed Forces, having served in any of our country’s conflicts, and losses from all circumstances of such deaths.
This garden plans to be a place for healing, of remembrance and reflection for all Gold Star Families, and serving as a location for educating the public, to better honor and pay tribute to these many local lives lost.
This garden will consist of a raised flagstone flower bed and a commercial grade bench. Planning for this area in the park, the garden will have need of:
soil preparation, fill materials, and periodic maintenance necessities;
appropriate plant choices for the central Texas climate; and
the purchase of a Gold Star Family marker and post through the National Garden Clubs. . .
