Since coming to Philadelphia in 2003, we have brought over 1,700 new teachers to the city, with two-thirds of our most recent group of alumni choosing to stay local and remain in the classroom beyond their two-year commitment. As a critical talent and leadership pipeline in education and beyond, we are also one of the most diverse teacher pipelines in the city of Philadelphia with 50% of our current corps identifying as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. Our alumni lead and fuel the efforts of change throughout the city: more than 400 of our alumni remain as teachers in Philadelphia classrooms, over 100 alumni serve in school leadership positions in the city, nearly 10% of all Philadelphia principals are TFA alumni, and almost 50 alumni serve in mid and senior systems level leadership roles in district and charter systems.
Despite the progress that we have begun to see, we know that there is still much work to be done. In partnership with our corps members, alumni, and the communities we serve, we are focusing our energy and efforts on:
- Continuing to recruit, develop, and retain a diverse pipeline of excellent teachers who will influence student outcomes in Philadelphia
-Developing our alumni leaders to create transformational change in schools and communities
-Igniting our entire network to act collectively to tackle issues of educational inequity
Together with students, parents, and communities, we plan to continue pushing toward a brighter, more equitable future for all children in Philadelphia.
