par DISABLED VETERAN EMPOWERMENT NETWORK

The Disabled Veteran Empowerment Network (DVEN) is proud to launch a new initiative: funding a second emotional support dog for veterans living with PTSD. This project builds on the success of our first placement and reflects the urgent need for accessible, life-changing support for our veteran community.

Every day, an estimated 17 veterans die by suicide—a tragic number that underscores the silent, ongoing crisis affecting those who have served. Many veterans face the invisible wounds of war, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression. These challenges can make reintegration into civilian life overwhelming, straining relationships, careers, and personal well-being.

While therapy and medication are valuable tools, emotional support animals (ESAs) provide a unique and powerful form of healing that is often overlooked or underfunded. For many veterans, an ESA is not just a pet—it’s a trusted companion, a source of comfort during panic attacks, and a reminder that they are not alone in their struggle.

Studies have shown that emotional support dogs can significantly reduce symptoms of PTSD, including:
- Decreasing anxiety and hypervigilance
- Easing feelings of isolation and depression
- Improving sleep quality
- Supporting veterans during triggering situations, like crowds or loud noises
- Encouraging physical activity and a daily routine

Yet, for many veterans, the cost of acquiring, training, and caring for an emotional support dog is simply out of reach. These dogs require specialized training to provide the right kind of support, and placement programs can cost thousands of dollars. That’s where DVEN steps in.

Through this program, we aim to fully fund the placement of a second emotional support dog for a veteran in need. This includes covering costs for:
- Dog acquisition and health screening
- Specialized training tailored to PTSD-related needs
- Ongoing support and resources for the veteran and their family
- Veterinary care and wellness check-ups during the first year

By providing this comprehensive support, we ensure that the dog is not just a pet but a true partner in the veteran’s journey toward healing.

This project also serves as a powerful symbol of what community-driven action can achieve. Each placement demonstrates to veterans that they are seen, valued, and supported, not just by their fellow veterans, but by the broader community. The project also raises awareness of the mental health challenges many veterans face and fosters a conversation about alternative, holistic approaches to care.

DVEN’s “We Drive. They Survive.” mission, powered by our Rally4Vets motorsports events and outreach campaigns, creates the momentum to make projects like this possible. Every dollar raised helps us bridge the gap for veterans in need of emotional support dogs and strengthens our mission to prevent veteran suicide.
