American Bystander

The Bystander’s mission is to preserve and reinvigorate the classic print humor
magazine format, which it does through publishing a quarterly print magazine, featuring
creators from The New Yorker, The Simpsons, SNL, and other venues.
Bystander also works in other, traditionally affiliated formats like online newsletters, podcasts, book publishing, and the like. We foster appreciation of classic (that is, pre-2000) comedy, and connect established practitioners with young writers, cartoonists, and illustrators.
Finally, we will soon come into possession of the world’s largest collection of printed humor
magazines and parodies, and plan to make them available to scholars in both paper (on-site) and digital (remote) formats.
