Our Vision:
At The Human-Animal Connection, we believe in the profound wisdom and personhood of all animals. We are dedicated to listening deeply to their needs and opinions, which reveal the keys to healing and understanding. With people, our mission is to educate with creative approaches and innovative methods that empower individuals to live in healthy, healing relationships with animals. We seek to foster connection and compassion in every interaction. With every step, we bring transformative healing to life through our gentle presence. We aim to create an environment where both humans and animals can thrive. We take our responsibility seriously, ensuring sustainability by making mission-driven choices that reflect our commitment to the future. Guided by unshakeable positivity, we look beyond the present moment and envision the boundless possibilities for growth and connection. Our work is always intuitive, tuned into the emotional and energetic needs of those we serve, allowing us to respond with sensitivity and care. Together, we are creating a world where both humans and animals heal, grow, and connect in ways that uplift us all.
Our Work:
The Human-Animal Connection brings people and animals together to help each other heal. It is important to us that the animal enjoys the experience as much as the person, as we view animals as partners in healing, not tools of healing. We have worked with over 4,000 Service members and their families. We help veterans choose the right shelter animal and train them to become emotional support animals. What is twice as important is that learning our methods for reducing emotional pain in animals is just as beneficial for the person as it is for the animal they are helping.
We have worked with children as young as one -- and people as old as 85 with our miniature therapy donkeys. They bring a sense of safety and pure joy to those who have experienced loss, grief, and trauma.
Our flagship program, Canines Teach Compassion, takes therapy animals into high schools, and our semester-long program reduces feelings of isolation and stress by 62%.
In addition to this in-classroom work, we also do a school-wide stress reduction event twice a semester, before midterms and before finals. This short video shows that joyful experience.

And this video shows how students learn to train therapy dogs as a way of learning to understand and manage their own emotions, and reduce stress by learning how to focus on positive thoughts and feelings.

And our donkey therapy program helps people of all ages to feel safe and reengage with their childlike joy.
