I am writing on behalf of the Smiles By Angels Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing books to underserved children in hospitals, foster care, and other communities. We are passionate about improving literacy among vulnerable children and believe that the gift of a book not only brings smiles but also has a profound impact on their emotional well-being and cognitive development.
Through the generous support of our donors and volunteers, Smiles By Angels Foundation has been able to touch the lives of countless children in various SoCal communities. We have successfully distributed books to several hospitals, including Harbor UCLA County Hospital, Los Angeles General Medical Center, Olive View County Hospital, Riverside University County Hospital, and Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.
The research conducted by the D’Or Institute for Research and Education has shown that reading to hospitalized children can reduce pain and stress, as well as transport them to a world beyond their hospital rooms, offering a much-needed escape.
In addition to hospitals, we have made a positive impact on children in foster care. Organizations like Oak Grove Center, Olive Crest, Koinonia Family Services, Brandywood Foundation, Rancho Damacitas, Temecula Youth of disadvantaged families, and Luilini Foster Care Foundation have partnered with us to promote reading among their youth, helping to improve their reading skills and enhance their chances of future success. The enthusiastic endorsement from Tammy Wilson, CEO of Oak Grove Center, reflects the significance of our efforts to promote literacy in a fun and engaging manner.
Furthermore, our commitment to reaching out to other communities, such as Camp Pendleton Marine families, Parents of Watts, and Mychal's Learning Place, underscores our dedication to fostering a love for reading among children from diverse backgrounds.
The primary objective of this grant proposal is to seek funding in the amount of $150,000.
With this financial support, Smiles By Angels Foundation aims to continue its mission of providing books to children in need and enhancing literacy in the communities we serve. The grant funds will procure age-appropriate and culturally diverse books, develop reading programs, and sustain our partnerships with hospitals, foster care organizations, and other communities. Additionally, less than 2% of the funds will be allocated toward logistical expenses to ensure seamless book distribution and educational outreach initiatives.
Smiles By Angels Foundation was established by Luis and Corine Peralta, who have devoted themselves to making a difference in the lives of underserved children. Their passion for literacy and the impact of reading on young minds inspired the creation of the foundation. With a background in education and child development, they bring valuable expertise to the organization, ensuring that our programs are designed to have a meaningful and lasting impact on the children we serve.
