Walker County African American Museum and Multicultural Center
par WALKER COUNTY-AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORICAL & ALUMNI ASSOCIATIONOur museum and multicultural center tell the stories of the lives of far northwest Appalachian Walker County, Georgia. Our main focus is Walker County, but we also tell the stories of the other three counties of the Lookout Mountain, Appalachian Judicial District: Dade, Catoosa and Chattooga counties. We focus on African American history because the stories of the 90%plus white communities are told very well with excellent monuments, road signs and interpretative signs. However, the stories of all the cultures that helped build NW Georgia need to be told and preserved and how all the cultures and races came together as one to create the region. We focus on the years after the Civil War, ca. 1866 to present. Our center is not just a museum, it is an educational center. A place to learn local history and how that history has help molded the USA.
