November 11 is Veterans Day (originally known as Armistice Day), a federal holiday in the United States that honors military veterans of the United States Armed Forces. We are deeply grateful for their service. The origins of this day trace back to 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, when a temporary cessation of hostilities was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I. More than a century later, we pay tribute to all American veterans, living and deceased, who served their country honorably in war or peace. Many communities observe a moment of silence at 11:00 a.m. to honor their service and sacrifice. In addition to attending local events and commemorations that often occur on Veterans Day, Groundswell is shining a light on a number of charities that support Veterans and their families, including help with the transition to civilian life as well as nonprofits providing critical mental health and rehabilitation services.
