Homeless Not Toothless (HNT) is a nonprofit organization that believes oral health is a gateway to overall health, confidence, and opportunity. Since our founding, we have provided more than $10 million in free dental services to over 150,000 underserved patients, including veterans, survivors of domestic violence, and foster youth.
Our Free Dental Care for Foster Youth initiative addresses the unique and often overlooked dental health needs of children and young adults in the foster care system. Many foster youth experience frequent placement changes, making consistent dental care difficult to access. Others have never received preventative care, leading to untreated cavities, infections, and tooth loss at a young age. Poor oral health not only affects their physical well-being but can also limit self-esteem, academic performance, social development, and future opportunities.
Through this program, HNT provides comprehensive, no-cost dental care to foster youth in Los Angeles County. Services include preventative care (exams, cleanings, sealants), restorative treatments (fillings, root canals, crowns), and cosmetic or reconstructive work when necessary. For older youth transitioning out of foster care, we provide ongoing treatment to ensure they enter adulthood with healthy, confident smiles.
HNT works in collaboration with local foster care agencies, group homes, and community partners to ensure care is accessible and coordinated. By addressing urgent needs and establishing long-term oral health habits, this initiative empowers foster youth with the tools to succeed both personally and professionally.
Every child deserves to smile without pain or embarrassment. With the support of community partners and funders, HNT can continue giving foster youth the chance to thrive, reminding them that they are valued, cared for, and deserving of a brighter future.
