Legal Services of the Hudson Valley, a 58-year old organization, is the only provider of comprehensive civil legal services in seven counties of the Lower- and Mid-Hudson Valley (Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Orange, Rockland, Sullivan, and Ulster). Our mission – which was updated in 2021 to reflect our organization’s commitment to equity as a thread running through all of our work – is to provide high quality counsel in civil matters for low-income individuals and families, and other vulnerable persons, who do not have access to legal representation to maintain their basic needs, and to pursue equity through dismantling systemic oppression. LSHV was originally incorporated in 1967 as Westchester Legal Services, in Westchester County, NY. Over the years, LSHV expanded in order to meet the growing need for services. In 1995, the agency added Putnam and Dutchess Counties, and in 2004, Rockland, Orange, Ulster and Sullivan Counties.
