At 84 years old, Peg came frighteningly close to homelessness. After 35 years in her City Point apartment, the building was sold — and the new owner wanted her out.
“I was thinking I was going to be living down in Farragut Park with a gray blanket,” Peg said. “Along came South Boston Neighborhood Development Corporation. I don’t know how I got here.”
Because of people like you, Peg didn’t have to face an uncertain future. With your support, she found a safe, affordable home at Patriot Homes, our veterans housing community.
“I was just grateful to have someplace to put my head down,” said Peg, whose late husband was a veteran. “Without South Boston NDC, where would I be?”
On Giving Tuesday, we’re launching our “Give the Gift of Home” end-of-year campaign, and your generosity can make sure more of your neighbors have the same security Peg found.
When you give, you’re not just supporting the creation of affordable homes — you’re helping current residents stay stable by providing essentials, covering utility assistance, and ensuring they have the support they need to live with dignity. Your gift — no matter the amount — provides not just housing, but stability and hope.
And your impact will go even further: Cambridge Savings Bank is matching all end-of-year donations, doubling the difference you make.
South Boston NDC also gratefully accepts Donor-Advised Fund contributions. Our EIN is 04-3023407.
If you’re able to give $1,000 or more, you may also benefit from the Massachusetts Community Investment Tax Credit (CITC) program, which returns 50% of your gift back to you — all while helping your neighbors stay housed.
Not long ago, Peg saw someone sitting outside on the sidewalk with all their belongings packed in bags and she had compassion and a new perspective. “Because I could have been him, with my little bag and my two cats.
“Housing is so important.”
Thank you for making South Boston a place where everyone belongs.
