Our Strong Families, Strong Children (SFSC) program supports the comprehensive needs of veteran and military-connected families when they are facing difficult times. Since 2016 the SFSC program provides mental health, housing, domestic violence intervention and prevention, and pro bon legal support to veteran and military families in need. Additional basic need services are also provided, based on families' needs. Transportation, gas, and grocery assistance, diapers and formula may also be provided as needed. Every member of the SFSC team is military-connected - a majority are veterans themselves, spouse of a veteran or active duty member, or has grown up in a military home. Our team understands on a very deep level the unique challenges facing veterans, those that are transitioning back into civilian life, and military connected spouses, partners, and children.
Enrolled families are paired with a licensed mental health professional as well as a Peer Navigator. The Peer Navigator is deeply connected to all community resources available in the community, and his well respected and welcomed by the VA, Veterans Legal Court and other key resources that can help the client and their family to thrive.
Funding for this program will support our ability to meet the increased demand for our services, and help expand our training program that engages key community nonprofits and educates them to identify and engage veterans and military families in their neighborhoods in a culturally sensitive way. Trained agencies learn the Peer Navigation model to ensure every family in need has an advocate to help them work through difficult circumstances.
