Carr Fire – Wildfire Relief Efforts in Redding and Shasta County

A dangerous wildfire continues to burn near the city of Redding, CA in Shasta County. The Carr Fire, which spread late Thursday during an intense heat wave, has scorched 181,496 acres and is 51% percent contained as of Friday. There have been multiple fatalities - including firefighters. 1,077 homes and other structures have burned and another 528 are threatened. 38,000 people have been evacuated.

The Salvation Army has deployed five Emergency Disaster Service teams from around Northern California to serve Carr Fire evacuees. What started as a two-team operation has now expanded to five mobile canteens from Auburn, Roseville, Eureka, Redding and Santa Rosa serving at locations in and around Redding. Locations include the evacuation center at Shasta College (11555 Old Oregon Trail, Redding, CA 96003), Cross Point Community Church (2960 Hartnell Ave, Redding, CA 96002) and Weaverville Elementary School (31020 CA-3, Weaverville, CA 96093). An additional five Salvation Army personnel are arriving today from Bremerton, WA to assist.

In addition to providing emotional and spiritual care, The Salvation Army teams have served over 20,000 meals to evacuees and first responders since July 27th. The teams continue to monitor the situation and will place personnel where they are most needed.
