You might be thinking to yourself, what in the world is Furniture Share? What is furniture poverty? Sometimes we take the most basic needs for granted. It isn’t until we find ourselves without that we realize that many families don’t have the basic things to make a house a home.
The people we serve are members of your community. Many face unimaginable challenges. Some are leaving hostile situations. Many are recovering from illness and addiction. Most are struggling to get back on their feet after being homeless. Most of the people you help have children that they want to provide a home for. With basic needs such as a dining table, a dresser, and especially a bed. Your support helps parents for the first time, tuck their children into a real bed.
Moving into a home is a momentous occasion for anyone who has been houseless for some time. An empty apartment or house is full of possibilities. But finding affordable housing is just the beginning of having a functioning home. What about a bed to sleep in, blankets to keep warm, pots and pans for cooking, a couch to sit on? For those seeking assistance in acquiring household essentials, Furniture Share is a great resource. What if something so simple really was the difference they needed to be a better parent, a better spouse, co-worker, student, or family unit?
Life is Better when a House is a Home program redistributes quality used furniture and household items to those in need through projects: BEDS for KIDS, Wildfire Furniture Releif Program, Veteran Welcome Home Kits, Feeding Our Future, and Furniture for Individuals in Crises. Our goal is to provide 1,900 beds to children, 350 dining tables and chairs to families, averaging out to be 2,500 individuals, and basic furniture and household items to 3,050 individuals. Additionally, we will divert 650 tons from the landfill an in-kind furniture and household donation valued at $855,000 which is passed on to families, children and individuals in need.
