SECOND CHANCE RANCH

Second Chance Ranch, an award-winning 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has proudly served Washington State since 1999. Our mission creates a powerful dual impact: we provide lifelong sanctuary for a special collection of retired sport horses while offering a unique platform for mental health professionals in the Inland Northwest to incorporate Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) into their treatment practices. To fully encompass the diverse needs of our community, we also offer two direct programs for individuals not currently working with a therapist: The Pursuit of Harmony youth initiative, created in partnership with local school districts, and Horses for Heroes, a restorative gathering for the military and veteran community. All of our programs are designed to be adaptable and customizable to best serve participants. We believe in the transformative power of connection that horses provide to bridge past experiences and future aspirations. Our goal is to expand the role horses play in education, mental health, and well-being. Our collaborative approach between mental health professionals, educators, and equine specialists will cultivate and advance the next generation of mental health solutions. SCR offers the only EAP program in Washington that allows licensed MH professionals access to a fully customizable framework, and to participate in the process with a customizable platform used in tandem with existing treatment plans. Our programs stand as a beacon of innovation allowing overwhelmed mental health professionals an adjunct alternative to conventional talk therapy and another outlet to reach their most difficult clients. By integrating the therapeutic qualities of horses into their practice, therapists embrace creative therapies that resonate deeply with their client, forge meaningful connections, and inspire profound change. At the heart of our mission is the unwavering belief in the potential of every individual, especially our youth and military heroes. Through programs like The Pursuit of Harmony and Horses for Heroes, we embody the spirit of hope and healing, reminding us that transformation is always possible. Our special collection of retired sport horses provide a comprehensive approach to building resilience in families and to conquer the negative health and behavioral consequences of trauma and toxic stress. It is our belief that creative learning environments lead to outcomes of increased confidence; enhanced motivation and engagement; and development of social- motional and critical thinking skills. Second Chance Ranch is fueled by a commitment to making EAP resources accessible to all. We are proud to offer our services free to those enrolled through their therapists, supported by generous donations and grants.
