At the Women Veterans Interactive Foundation (WVI), we do more than advocate for Women Veterans—we stand in the gap, remove barriers, and build bridges to healing, stability, opportunity, economic mobility, and sisterhood.
Founded in 2011 by U.S. Navy veteran and formerly homeless Woman Veteran Ginger Miller, WVI is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that Women Veterans are seen, supported, and empowered throughout every stage of their post-military journey. Since our founding, WVI has supported more than 12,000 Women Veterans and family members through direct assistance, benefits navigation, workforce development, wellness initiatives, entrepreneurship programs, community engagement, and national convenings.
WHY WVI EXISTS
Women are the fastest-growing population in the veteran community, yet they are often overlooked, underserved, or disconnected from the benefits and support they earned through military service. Many do not identify themselves as veterans, feel uncomfortable in traditional veteran spaces, or struggle to find services that reflect their experiences as women, caregivers, parents, survivors, and community leaders.
WVI meets Women Veterans where they are—before, during, and long after their transition from military service. Through community outreach, virtual programming, national partnerships, and boots-on-the-ground engagement, we reach women experiencing crisis, isolation, food insecurity, housing instability, unemployment, health disparities, or difficulty navigating complex systems. We also support those seeking professional growth, leadership opportunities, entrepreneurship resources, and a lasting sense of belonging.
Our approach is peer-powered, trauma-informed, and results-driven. We understand the challenges Women Veterans face because many of our leaders, volunteers, and members have lived them. Every program is grounded in listening, trust, dignity, compassion, and the belief that no Woman Veteran should have to navigate life after service alone.
HOW WVI MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Operation Safety Net: Emergency Relief and Stabilization
A temporary financial emergency can quickly place a Woman Veteran and her family at risk of hunger, homelessness, or long-term instability. Operation Safety Net provides rapid, compassionate assistance to Women Veterans experiencing food insecurity, housing instability, utility shutoffs, transportation challenges, and other unexpected hardships.
Support may include groceries, emergency lodging, utility assistance, transportation, hygiene products, and other essential needs. By responding quickly and treating every woman with dignity, WVI helps stabilize families, prevent homelessness, and provide the breathing room needed to rebuild.
Transition, Career Readiness, and Economic Empowerment
Transitioning from military service involves much more than finding a job. Women Veterans must often translate their military experience, navigate unfamiliar systems, rebuild their professional identities, and reimagine what success looks like in civilian life.
Through the Women Veterans Transition Space, Beyond the Transition, the WVI Career Center, and workforce development programming, participants receive career coaching, resume development, military-skills translation, LinkedIn branding, interview preparation, financial education, professional development, and connections to employers committed to recruiting veteran talent. The WVI Career Center, developed in partnership with DirectEmployers, expands access to meaningful career opportunities nationwide.
WVI also leads the Women Veterans Entrepreneurship Collective, a national ecosystem connecting Women Veteran entrepreneurs with mentorship, business education, networking, procurement opportunities, and trusted entrepreneurship partners. Our goal is not simply to help Women Veterans find jobs; it is to help them build purpose-filled careers, sustainable businesses, financial stability, and lasting economic mobility.
VA Benefits Navigation and Claims Assistance
Access to earned benefits can be life-changing, yet many Women Veterans delay filing claims because of stigma, misinformation, previous negative experiences, or difficulty navigating the Department of Veterans Affairs system.
WVI hosts VA benefits claims clinics in collaboration with VA representatives and veteran-serving partners. Veterans receive individualized assistance with disability compensation, pension claims, documentation, benefits questions, and other service-connected needs. WVI’s claims clinics have assisted more than 1,250 veterans to date, helping many take a critical step toward financial security, healthcare access, and long-term stability.
Holistic Wellness and Health Equity
WVI supports the whole woman—not simply her rank, disability rating, or resume. Our wellness initiatives address mental well-being, preventive health, nutrition, chronic disease awareness, healthy living, and access to culturally responsive care.
Programs include wellness education, nutrition support, self-care activities, health screenings, community referrals, and connections to women-centered clinical and social services. By strengthening the bridge between healthcare systems and community-based support, WVI helps prevent Women Veterans from falling through the cracks because their experiences or healthcare needs look different from those of their male counterparts.
National Convenings and Empowerment Experiences
The Women Veterans Interactive National Conference—WVI NatCon—is our signature national event and one of the country’s leading gatherings focused on Women Veterans and military women. Held annually in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, WVI NatCon brings together Women Veterans, military women, government leaders, corporate partners, advocates, and service providers for several days of education, resources, networking, leadership development, benefits assistance, wellness programming, and sisterhood.
WVI also hosts the Pink & White Empowerment Summit in Atlanta, an uplifting experience centered on wellness, leadership, personal development, entrepreneurship, and connection. Our State of Women Veterans Convening unites leaders from the corporate, government, nonprofit, healthcare, and veteran-serving sectors to develop collaborative solutions and build an ecosystem in which Women Veterans can thrive in the civilian sector.
These experiences help Women Veterans reclaim their voices, expand their networks, rediscover their power, and renew their sense of purpose.
Chapters, Community, and Sisterhood
WVI has established chapters in the National Capital Region, Atlanta, Richmond, and Fayetteville, along with a growing national membership. Through chapter activities, volunteerism, wellness events, digital engagement, outreach, and storytelling, we create year-round opportunities for Women Veterans to connect and serve alongside one another.
We equip local leaders to mobilize resources, develop partnerships, advocate for Women Veterans, and create welcoming communities grounded in trust and sisterhood. At WVI, we believe you do not age out of sisterhood—and you never have to walk alone.
THE IMPACT OF YOUR SUPPORT
Every contribution made through Benevity helps WVI provide direct emergency assistance, prevent homelessness, address food insecurity, connect Women Veterans with earned benefits, expand workforce and entrepreneurship opportunities, and create safe spaces for healing and connection.
Your support can help keep a family’s utilities connected, provide groceries or emergency lodging during a crisis, connect a veteran with career opportunities, help an entrepreneur access mentorship, support a veteran in filing a benefits claim, or remind an isolated Woman Veteran that she is seen and not forgotten.
Because every Woman Veteran deserves more than a thank-you.
She deserves dignity.
She deserves opportunity.
She deserves access to the benefits she earned.
She deserves a community that recognizes her service and sees her as more than her uniform.
Most importantly, she deserves the opportunity to thrive.
That is what we build at the Women Veterans Interactive Foundation—and that is why we will never stop.
Real Support. Real Sisterhood. Real Results.
