Equal Access Assessment Fund

de TELOS PROJECT

To expand our reach to at-risk families and enhance access to these essential services, we have established the Equal Access Assessment Fund. This fund aims to alleviate the prohibitive costs of testing for families who are underinsured, have Medicaid, or possess insurance that does not cover the cost of these assessments.
The primary need this program addresses is the financial barrier to accessing comprehensive diagnostic testing for families in need. Timely psychological assessments are crucial for early identification of conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, learning disorders (e.g., dyslexia), and ADHD, especially in school-age children. Early diagnosis is critical for implementing interventions that can drastically improve quality of life and long-term outcomes for individuals, particularly school-age children.
Many families, particularly those from minority or low-income backgrounds, face significant obstacles in accessing psychological assessments due to the prohibitively costs involved. Systemic inequities in health care access and diagnosis, particularly concerning autism spectrum disorder (ASD), exacerbate these challenges. Research unequivocally demonstrates that children from minority groups, including Black, Latinx, and Asian families, as well as those from low-income households, consistently receive an ASD diagnosis later than their Caucasian counterparts. This delay in diagnosis severely hinders the effectiveness of early
intervention services, which are most impactful during critical developmental periods. On average, children from minority or low-income backgrounds experience a three-year delay from the initial observation of concerns by parents to actual diagnosis, significantly impeding the child's well-being while also placing burdens on educators, counselors, and peers providing support in educational settings.

By establishing the Equal Access Assessment Fund, we hope to achieve the following:
Increase Access: Ensure that at-risk families can access necessary diagnostic testing regardless of their financial situation.

Early Identification and Intervention: Promote early diagnosis of mental health and learning disorders, enabling timely interventions that can significantly improve long-term outcomes.

Remove Financial Barriers: Alleviate the burden of high testing costs for families with limited coverage, reducing the financial strain and difficult choices these families face.

Improve Quality of Life: Enhance the overall well-being of individuals by providing the assessments needed to tailor educational and therapeutic interventions.

Support Educational Environments: Assist educators and counselors in creating effective, inclusive learning environments by providing them with accurate diagnostic information.

The impact of this initiative will be profound, allowing for improved access to diagnostic services, early intervention, and better overall outcomes for individuals and their communities.
