The Marvin Dorsey Deer Hunt was created in Marvin's memory and love of hunting. Every year, NPLB takes a group of six veterans out for a day of hunting with a luncheon provided midway through the hunt. This will allow the veterans to connect through camaraderie and get some food in their bellies before heading out again for the evening hunt.
These events are not just about hunting, fishing, camping, or any other outdoor activity we offer; they are about creating opportunities for veterans to make new friends and expand their network of help and resources, and most importantly, heal from their injuries. For many of our veterans, just being around other veterans and in the outdoors with fresh air and away from all of the hustle and bustle of everyday life and stress, helps them heal faster and better than just by doing their everyday routine of rest and doctor appointments.
The support you give us allows us to keep our events completely free of charge for our veterans to participate in. Your support not only covers the event itself, but also the meals, lodging, transportation, hunting/fishing licenses, equipment, and any incidentals that may be required for the event.
Our veterans have testified to how NPLB has helped them emerge from a dark place and live a more vibrant and fulfilling life. They have even been able to become more active within their home communities after participating in one of our events and meeting other veterans who are all going through similar situations, and they realize that they are not alone and have resources for if they ever feel like they are getting down or depressed and just need someone to talk to outside of medical personnel.
