The Army Scholarship Foundation provides academic scholarships to children of US Army soldiers and to spouses of active duty enlisted soldiers. Army family members face particularly difficult challenges in pursuing their educational dreams, facing frequent moves and deployments of their military family sponsor, coping with and adapting to differing standards and quality of education in multiple schools, reduced opportunities for extracurricular activities, and diminished family income due to lack of stable family job opportunities. The Army Scholarship Foundation is dedicated to helping these family members who make so many sacrifices on behalf of our country and who deserve our thanks and our support. Founded in 2001 by a volunteer group of Army Veterans, the Army Scholarship Foundation was certified as a charitable not-for-profit 501(c) 3 organization by the Internal Revenue Service in 2001. All donations to the Foundation are fully tax deductible to the extent allowed by the IRS code. Unfortunately, many qualified applicants do not receive awards due to lack of funding. Here are some facts on our students:
• They graduate at a rate of over 90% while the nationwide average graduation rate is 60%
• 40+% of our awardees major in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) fields
• 50% are first generation college students in their families
• Average student family income is less than $60,000
• Most significantly, due to funding constraints, 2 out of 3 applicants do not receive awards
As an IRS accredited charity (EIN 74-2996331), the Army Scholarship Foundation is led by a volunteer Board of Directors, and all operations are conducted without compensation by a nationwide team of volunteers. All costs are kept to a minimum via donation of time and resources by the Foundation’s volunteers, resulting in overhead costs of just 5% every year. The Army Scholarship Foundation has been awarded the Guide Star USA Platinum Exchange Seal for compliance with data transparency guidelines for charitable organizations. Guide Star USA is an independent organization and the nation’s leader in evaluating the non-profit sector to help donors make optimal giving decisions based on comprehensive data. In addition, the Foundation has been approved for participation in the federal government Combined Federal Campaign yearly since 2013 based on a rigorous evaluation and audit process. The Army Scholarship Foundation’s CFC participation number is 24394.
The obstacles which Army families must overcome are many, and the Army Scholarship Foundation provides one small way to assist these family members who are in pursuit of higher education. The foundation is sustained by the generous donations of its supporters. Tax deductible donations can be sent to the Army Scholarship Foundation, 11700 Preston Road, Suite 660-301, Dallas, TX 75230.
