Convoy of Hope is responding to the deadly earthquake in Japan. In partnership with local ministries, Convoy is providing food, water, hygiene supplies, and more essential items to bring relief to struggling families.

On New Year’s Day, a powerful 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck western Japan, collapsing buildings, causing fires, and triggering tsunami alerts. The threat of landslides and tsunamis prompted residents to evacuate coastal areas.

The earthquake caused more than 200 deaths, with over 100 people still unaccounted for. Search and rescue efforts continue, but weather conditions have significantly hampered rescue work, adding to the challenges emergency responders face.

With tens of thousands of people sheltering in evacuation centers, the spread of infectious disease is a high concern. This is why Convoy provides hygiene kits to survivors of disaster. The simple act of brushing your teeth and keeping your hands clean can bring a sense of normalcy to an otherwise incredibly challenging time and help prevent the spread of disease.
