Samaritan’s Purse is working to eradicate poverty by providing families with seeds, animals, tools, and valuable training that empowers them to create a secure, healthy future. Through our agriculture program, beneficiaries learn techniques to increase their harvests and make their crops less vulnerable to drought and disease.
Our animal programs equip families to raise chickens and goats, herd sheep, keep bees, and establish fishponds. Through this program, beneficiaries receive everything they need for success, including specialized training, shelter materials, start-up food, and veterinary services. Through the sale of wool, honey, fish, eggs, and dairy products, families can afford to send their children to school and seek medical help when needed.
To help families continue improving their situation for years to come, we help them form cooperatives that help ensure a fair market price for crops. Through local savings groups established by Samaritan’s Purse, families can invest extra income into their communities or secure low-interest loans to purchase farm machinery or additional livestock. We also provide training in principles of small business so that, as farmers expand their gardens and raise more animals, they will have the knowledge needed to sell their goods at the market.
