The Equine Sanctuary is a special and unique “safe-haven”. It is a place of healing and refuge not only for our rescued horses, but also for the children, adults and Veterans who have the opportunity to interact and bond with them.
People of all ages learn of each horse’s injuries, abandonment and betrayal and are inspired by their success to survive against all odds. A short experience with our therapy horses facilitates a deep connection and empathy with these brave and special animals. This often allows many children and adults to find the courage within themselves, to turn their own tragedies into triumphs. We have witnessed many people who felt hopeless due to their circumstances transform their lives. New self-esteem, trust, hope, and joy emerges as enthusiasm for life is rekindled. Unconditional love and faith truly does produce miracles and often inspires a new relationship with God.
We offer leadership and educational programs for US Veterans, schools, churches, scouting groups, at risk youth and for any individual child or adult wanting to make a difference in their own life.
We also offer a variety of Equine Assisted programs, community service for high school students and a Medical Auditing Program as well. Corporate Events are structured to each company’s individual need for team skill building.
As an approved 501c3 non profit organization, we operate via volunteers, donations, workplace & estate planned giving, therapy horse sponsorships, and scholarships for our programs and participants.
The Equine Sanctuary began in June 2000, in Ojai, Ca. and now has fostered horses at cooperative training farms throughout the US while they are waiting for their forever homes. We have recently opened a new facility in Parker, Colorado, and have created much needed programs for the Colorado communities.
In alignment with our original mission, we continue to make a difference for humans and horses whenever and wherever we have the opportunity.
We agree, with the famous horse Seabiscuit's trainer, " You don't throw away a whole life, just because it's a little banged up" Tom Smith
