Charleston Habitat for Humanity joined the affordable housing effort in 1989. Since then, we’ve built 94 new homes, renovated 24 houses and supported 48 homes in Honduras - improving over 600 lives through home ownership. Our vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Seeking to put God’s love into action, Charleston Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. By facilitating homeownership, families can break the cycle of poverty, which goes a long way to building a better future for multiple generations.

Charleston Habitat for Humanity joined the affordable housing effort in 1989. The affiliate’s earliest service was partnering with the local community to transform the Low Country of South Carolina after a Category 5 hurricane ripped into the Southeastern Seaboard in September of 1989. Hurricane Hugo was the costliest storm the country had ever seen at that time.
