A 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on August 10, resulting in at least 111 fatalities, extensive building damage, and many individuals trapped under debris. The epicenter was in the Choco region, west of Bogotá, and tremors were felt in Ecuador and Panama. Cities such as Pereira, Quibdo, Cali, and Manizales were significantly affected.
