IDAHO VETERANS NETWORK

Idaho Veterans Network assists other veterans who are in crisis, mostly from PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury, and combat related injuries by providing mentoring, advocacy, referral, financial aid, and ongoing support and friendship to the veterans and their families.

This non-profit has been in existence since 2005 and works with law enforcement, the judicial system, all branches of military, and other entities who encounter veterans and their families. Our community comprises over 4,000 veterans in Idaho.

We often help veterans by paying for gas, food, car repairs, utility bills, and household needs. This assistance is meant to take care of emergency needs when other entities would take much longer to help the veteran. We also have some non-traditional treatments we pay for to enhance their care at the VA.

We also hold a weekly Peer to Peer support group for veterans where they can interact with each other and share their common military experiences. We feed them every week and, for some veterans, it is the best meal they get that week.

We assist with bereavement support for Iraq and Afghanistan veteran families due to suicide, combat, and accidents. This includes help with funerals and permanent ongoing support for the families.

We help needy military families with food and gifts during Thanksgiving and Christmas.

We provide advocacy for veterans who get into legal problems due to their PTSD and TBI. We also take a few cases a year where we guide the veteran through his whole legal process, go to court hearings, and then mentor them through probation. We are well known by the judicial system, prosecutors, and probation people.

In short, we try to fill in the holes by doing what other agencies do not do or cannot do. We have been very successful at guiding veterans who are suicidal until they get through the storm.
