The Joshua Stow Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (Joshua Stow NSDAR) will be hosting a local Wreaths Across America (WAA) ceremony where volunteers will place wreaths on veterans’ gravesites at our three local Stow cemeteries: Stow Cemetery, Silver Springs Cemetery, and Maple Lawn Cemetery. WAA is held in connection with the national, non-profit organization, Wreaths Across America, whose mission is simple: Remember the fallen, Honor those that serve, and Teach the next generation about the value of freedom. Each year this is carried out in part through the laying of wreaths on National Wreaths Across America day in December. Last year over 2.7 million wreaths were placed at veterans’ graves in the United States and worldwide.
This year, National Wreaths Across America day will be held on Saturday, December 14th, 2024. Locally, a ceremony will begin at 2:30pm, followed by the placement of wreaths at the local Stow cemeteries where combined, approximately 875 local veterans are laid to rest. This is open to anyone who would like to attend.
Our goal is to be able to place a wreath at every local veteran’s final resting place - an estimated 875 combined at the three local cemeteries. Each handmade, live wreath costs $17 to sponsor and is made in the United States with Maine balsam.
