RevComm Foundation (RCF) was established by experienced nonprofit consultants to fill the gaps in resources and support services tailored to grassroots nonprofit organizations across Southern California. Founded during the pandemic when nonprofits were navigating uncharted waters, RevComm Foundation was born to provide no-cost resources, guidance, and accessible funding to startup nonprofits. The stark reality of startup nonprofits is that approximately 30% will cease operations within a decade of their formation. The issue they sought to address often persists, but the primary cause of their closure is typically due to lack of funding and limited support during the crucial early years. Through RevComm Foundation’s innovative programs, we are committed to reducing this statistic, beginning with our local community in Southern California through the provision of:
• Nonprofit Pro Bono Consulting Network – born from the hardships faced throughout the pandemic, RCF launched its Nonprofit Pro Bono Consulting Network, where skilled volunteer consultants are strategically paired to an organization in need. Through this program, nonprofit organizations can benefit from the expertise of our vetted consultant network to address specific and critical needs holding them back from expanded community impact. To date, RCF has provided this program 1:1 as projects arise. New for 2024, RCF’s pro bono consulting network will expand to be provided in cohorts, empowering nonprofits to also lean on each other while working 1:1 with their pro bono consultant. Examples of past participants have included 501c3 formation for an early childhood development center, grant writing for re-entry services for youth/young adults, and web development/branding for human trafficking education within schools.
• Fiscal Sponsorship – starting a nonprofit, obtaining 501(c)(3) status and filing financial documents can be time-consuming and expensive. By providing fiscal sponsorship, grassroot community projects can save the time and money put forth in administrative and operational needs, empowering them to drive real change through their work.
• Accessible Funding – originally structured as a traditional grant funding program, RCF switched to an interactive and innovative model of funding through its Grant Tank event. Each year, RCF awards 4 organizations with grant funding through the support of philanthropic sharks as well as direct grants from RCF. Organizations supported have included aqua aerobics for seniors/disabled, re-entry services for youth/young adults, girls/women's empowerment services, teen-founded veteran services, birthday experiences for children from low-income families, and services that support families from low-income communities who have gifted children.
• Nonprofit Collaborative Workspace (future concept still in fundraising phase) – a unique spin on coworking, RCF’s collaborative workspace will be designed for nonprofit organizations still operating out of a home, garage, backyard – where the story of many changemakers begins. This concept is more than a physical space, but a collaborative location for agencies to gain the resources needed to thrive. During an agency’s time as a member, they will receive guidance on things like program design, strategic planning, fundraising, and much more. While the program may initially begin as a low-cost and accessible membership model, the goal is to secure enough funding to grant space to selected nonprofits for a year at a time.
At the root of our work at RevComm Foundation is the empowerment of nonprofit organizations, equipping them with strategic and funding resources needed to sustain their efforts in delivering no-to-low-cost services to their clients. We have a goal of redefining the narrative of nonprofit funding by fostering a collaborative synergy specifically designed to support startup nonprofit organizations. Through our work, we are committed to bringing nonprofits to the table to work together in an effort to foster real change.
