MEDICINE HORSE PROGRAM

Medicine Horse is one of the oldest and largest equine assisted psychotherapy centers in America. Working with horses, we provide sliding scale mental health services to those in need. Reciprocal healing is the cornerstone of Medicine Horse Program. In our core programs, groups and individual therapy we serve thousands of clients a year.

Medicine Horse is a place in nature, a pastoral setting where those seeking help can receive mental health services with the help of our therapists and horses. Our licensed and registered therapists work with our horses in equine assisted psychotherapy, a growing field that stems from animal assisted therapy and experiential education.

Clients, many from the nearby cities of Longmont, Broomfield and Denver, are taken out of their comfort zone when they first meet a horse. Horses, as herd animals, have group interactions that mirror many of our group dynamics, whether in school, with family or friends, at work, in gangs or clubs. Clients spend reflective time with the herd, and find that it is often easy to empathize with an animal. Horses live in the moment and are nonjudgemental which is transformative for those working on healing.
