Youth for Troops is a youth-led nonprofit that organizes a monthly community service project to assemble care packages for deployed service members in Suite 202 of the Anthem Civic Building.
This community service event is open to volunteers of all ages, and groups are welcome to help. This is a fun way for families, co-workers, friends, and groups to help those deployed and even earn service hours for clubs and organizations. Setup is from 4:30-5:30 PM and packing is from 5:30-7 PM.
Our goal is to pack 200+ boxes each month. This number varies and is based on donations of care package items and donations for shipping costs. We send each service member on our list care packages each month of their deployment. Donations for the boxes can be dropped off outside suite 202 in the Anthem Civic Building, donation boxes at area businesses, or mailed to Youth for Troops. Donations to cover shipping and shipping supplies ($15/box or $30 per service member) are always appreciated and can be brought to the event or donated online at the Youth for Troops website (youthfortroops.org) or mailed to Youth for Troops at 3655 W Anthem Way, Ste A109-403, Anthem, AZ 85086. Donations needed:
Shipping: Sharpies, packing tape, and money for postage
Hygiene boxes: foot powder, travel-size toiletries (deodorant, mouthwash, toothpaste), baby wipes, travel-size facial tissue, lip balm, cough drops, ibuprofen packets, and word games/puzzle books.
Food boxes: beef jerky, coffee singles, hydrating water flavoring packets, small hot sauce bottles, trail mix, nuts, sunflower seeds, fruit snacks, crackers, power bars, granola bars, mints, gum, condiment packets, snack-size cookies, single-serve peanut butter, and candy.
Donation drives and gift card drives are greatly appreciated. Gift cards will be used to purchase items for the care packages or cover shipping costs. We spend around $3,000 a month in shipping fees, in addition, we purchase items to send in the boxes. We provide free community service events for all ages 0-120 to participate in supporting our deployed heroes and veterans.
