MITTENS FOR DETROIT INC

Mittens for Detroit was founded in 2010, as a community initiative to address the issue of people in need of warm mittens and gloves in Detroit. Mittens for Detroit became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2016. Our office is right in the heart of downtown Detroit.

Mittens for Detroit collected, purchased, and distributed more than one-quarter million new pairs to children, teens, and adults in need in Detroit, Highland Park, Hamtramck, Dearborn, Pontiac, and other nearby cities where there is need. The Community Collection is comprised by donations of pairs by the public throughout Metro Detroit and beyond. Distribution is conducted by a network of about 100 partner agencies, schools, veterans groups, senior centers, shelters, programs, and other resources for those in need. Nearly 400 volunteers lend a hand in The Big Sort, a volunteer event that runs from October through March, where 22,000 pairs are sorted, counted, and boxed up annually.

Mittens for Detroit is an appealing charity for businesses and individuals, as the results are literally tangible. Whether it is an onsite collection of new mittens and gloves, a volunteer engagement or team-building activity in The Big Sort, or matching individuals' donations with corporate funds, you'll find that Mittens for Detroit is a very easy nonprofit with which to work.
