Birmingham, AlabamaLakeshore's mission is to enable people with physical disability and chronic health conditions to lead healthy, active, and independent lifestyles through physical activity, sport, recreation, advocacy, policy and research.
Lakeshore Foundation provides adapted sports, recreation and aquatics programs for individuals with physical disabling conditions. More than 5,400 individuals participate each year in fitness, aquatics, individual and team sports and recreation activities. In 2003, Lakeshore became a U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Site. Since 2006, Lakeshore has offered sport and recreation camps to serve injured U.S. military, veterans and their families. In 2012, Lakeshore established the UAB/Lakeshore Research Collaborative. Through Lakeshore's advocacy work locally, nationally and internationally, efforts are focused on removing barriers to a healthy lifestyle for people with disabilities.
