In its 72nd year of service to the communities of Southwest Florida, Pines of Sarasota Rehabilitation and Senior Care Community (Pines) celebrates a caring tradition that began in 1948. In the early 1940s, long before Medicaid and Medicare, concerned citizens became aware that Sarasota was in desperate need of a home to care for the elderly who had no shelter, poor health, and limited or no incomes. Since 1948, Pines has grown from three buildings, six residents, and two staff members to a 25-acre campus with 200+ residents, and over 350 employees. Pines has purposefully integrated itself into the community by addressing needs that coincide with senior care. Skilled Nursing and memory care, rehabilitation/physical therapy, community child care, Certified Nursing Assistant training and certification program, as well as Assisted Living. Many services are offered free or at a lowered cost for the most vulnerable in our community. For over seven decades, Pines has focused on the care of the Sick and/or Aged in Southwest Florida, believing that we are called to provide the best care to the most vulnerable as a community. Without concern for the financial situation, believing that all lives should receive dignity, compassion, and love.
Pines currently cares for 204 skilled nursing residents of whom 133 have outlived their financial resources. Sadly, the cost of their life-saving care creates a shortfall of $7,500 per resident, a total of $1,000,000 annually. This deficit is due to the gap between the cost of providing care and the reimbursement for these services from Medicaid.
Your support of the Pines Foundation Mission Fund Program ensures that deserving resident can receive life-saving care for a full year and provides assurance to the senior and their family that they will not be asked to leave their home at Pines for lack of funds. Pines of Sarasota Foundation's long-term commitment to provide the needed resources to care for those who can no longer care for themselves is a beam of hope and relief for these individuals, their families and the community that loves them.
