Millville, New JerseyThe mission of the Millville Army Air Field Museum, located at Millville Airport in Millville, New Jersey, is to preserve and promote the World War II aviation and military history of “America’s First Defense Airport.” The Museum serves to recognize, document and honor the lives of American veterans, to act as the proprietor of historic buildings and structures of the World War II period that exist on site, to honor and promote the invaluable role of the P-47 Thunderbolt pursuit/fighter plane and its pilots during World War II, to accrue, research, preserve, display and educate with collections of valuable historic materials and to perpetuate these goals for all of posterity.
The Millville Army Air Field Museum (MAAFM) preserves the history of the Millville Army Air Field, Millville NJ, which was dedicated by the US War Department in 1941 as "America's First Defense Airport." During its four-year existence, more than 10,000 men and women served here, with 1,500 pilots receiving advanced fighter training in P-47 Thunderbolt and P-40 Warhawk fighter planes. The Museum honors the memory of 14 pilots who died while training at Millville.
