Reports of flooding have been rolling in throughout Southwest Virginia.

Residents have been evacuating across various counties due to flooding along the New River and other waterways.
No confirmed fatalities, but 44 people were unaccounted for at the height of the flooding.
Major flooding impacted four river basins, with some areas reaching or exceeding all-time record water levels.
Heavy rainfall has flooded dozens of roads in northwestern Virginia.
Lynchburg Fire Chief Greg Wormser says, “Deployments of this type are part of what it means to be a first responder in the Commonwealth of Virginia. When one part of the state needs assistance, the rest of us are there to help. Our search and rescue teams are highly trained and are ready for just this kind of emergency.” Wormser noted that the deployments would not impact local service delivery, and that adequate staffing remains to deal with emergencies in the city. Calls for water rescue began at 5:58 p.m. for the Roanoke Fire & EMS Department. Giles County Emergency Services and Pulaski County Emergency Management also report significant flooding that has led to multiple road closures.
