Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

de UNITED WAY OF KENOSHA COUNTY

United Way of Kenosha County leads the Kenosha County VITA Coalition. The goal of the Coalition is to provide services to underserved, low to moderate income community members that increase their financial well-being. This Coalition is made up of Gateway Technical College, Carthage College, University of Wisconsin Parkside, the IRS, and Kenosha Public Libraries, in collaboration with Kenosha workforce development, social services and local non-profits.

The primary service of the KCVC is the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program where IRS-certified volunteers provide free, quality tax preparation for moderate to low-income individuals and families.

VITA also connects community members with an array of services to maximize their refunds as well as the tools they need to not only provide for their basic needs but to build a solid financial foundation.

On average each year about 43% of VITA clients stated they needed their refund to help pay off their debt. 30% stated that they needed their refund to provide for their basic needs and 60% stated they could not set money aside for emergencies.

VITA is an important resource that, each year, returns over $1.5 million back into our community and into the hands of residents who desperately need it. KCVC brings multiple organizations together to work cohesively, maximizing anti-poverty outreach efforts and providing the opportunity for financial wellness that not only benefits the individuals and families but benefits the entire community.
