My work is centered around dance and theatre, often in collaboration with other disciplines of performing art. I have dealt heavily over the last fifteen years with the subject of resistance and resilience, and this summer I will launch into a new artistic journey built around the process of healing and exploring the idea of 'freedom as a way of life.' This journey will begin with a new dance work, Our Road Home that commemorates the 160th anniversary of Freedmen's Town in Houston, Texas. We want to leverage the premiere of Our Road Home to anchor fundraising efforts for ongoing cultural activations that will include performance works, visual art, research, immersive installation, and community engagement. We hope to launch a fundraising campaign called 19for19, to raise $19k as we enter the season of Juneteeth (June 19th).
