Haus of PVMNT is a project-based collaborative founded in 2018 by Christopher Kinsey and Maggie Costales. Through movement performance, we are committed to challenging social climates, both past and present, from our queer perspectives as Generation-Z artists. In our work, we combine pedestrian gesture with extreme athleticism to create worlds and spaces that audiences can both recognize themselves within and escape into. With groundedness and a sense of bounding through space, we harness the power of technique and call into question the sensitivity of the mundane. We value playfulness and poignancy in our processes and in performance. In the work that we create, it has always been important to collaborate with other artists on costume design, cinematography, musical composition and space design. We find that the exchange of ideas with our fellow artists on any single project is what shapes and creates the work itself. Our dream for PVMNT exists within and beyond the proscenium stage, the ideals of performance, and the singularity of dance. We are working to improve and expand our vision for PVMNT as a vehicle for community building, interdisciplinary artistic collaboration, and education. We have recently developed a new platform titled ‘gestHAUS’. gestHAUS will highlight and illuminate artists across all disciplines and backgrounds on our website, social media, and through performance opportunities. Our intention with this collaborative platform is to highlight not only the work of the artist but also the individual who creates it. Through countless conversations with our peers and other artists in the field, we have found that every working artist’s life is, by nature, intersectional and interdisciplinary; it is this aspect of all our lives that we want to include in gestHAUS. We want to create space for each artist to choose the format in which they are featured, whether it is a virtual feature on our social media platforms or a live performance, gallery, or lecture –– we will encourage the artists to make the choice they want. We intend to feature 4 artists of different disciples every month. We believe that the potential for building, strengthening, and understanding the artist community is exponential. Our first gestHAUS lineup is set to launch in August 2021; featuring the work of Harmony Jackson (Miami-based fiber artist), Janelle Abbott (Seatle-based zero-waste fashion designer), Miami Movement Collective (a new contemporary repertory dance company), and Ketia June (NYC Based publicist and lawyer supporting BIPOC creatives).
