Power Pathways: Fueling Careers in Skilled Trades
by POWER OF PEOPLE COMMUNITY INITIATIVES INCPower of People Community Initiatives (PPCI) is proud to launch our Electrical Workforce Development Program, an initiative designed to provide meaningful economic opportunities to people of color, veterans, and individuals previously incarcerated on Chicago's Southside. Our program aims to address both the skilled labor shortage and the systemic barriers that have historically excluded underrepresented groups from skilled trades careers.
In partnership with Spurlock & Son Inc., a family-owned electrical contracting business with nearly 30 years of experience, our program offers participants a pathway to a rewarding career in the electrical field. Through a combination of hands-on training, mentorship, and job placement support, we are committed to preparing participants for Illinois electrician licensing exams and securing apprenticeships or entry-level positions with local employers.
Our unique approach integrates community engagement, tailored curriculum development, and support services to ensure that participants are not only job-ready but also equipped with the confidence and skills to thrive in their new careers. By fostering a diverse pipeline of skilled tradespeople, we aim to create sustainable pathways to economic empowerment and contribute to the revitalization of Southside communities.
With our inaugural cohort set to launch in March 2025, PPCI is poised to make a significant impact, helping individuals build stable, fulfilling careers while strengthening the fabric of our community.
