Mommy & Daddy's Little Angels Youth And Family Services Inc. OutDoors Field Trip

by MOMMY & DADDYS LITTLE ANGELS YOUTH & FAMILY SERVICES INC

The proposed Mental Wellness Program, designed for 30 teenagers aged 13 to 15, addresses the unique needs of youth not eligible to participate in the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (NYC DYCD) Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) due to age restrictions. Many of the participants come from marginalized backgrounds, including foster care, group homes, Title 1 schools, and underprivileged communities. A significant number of these young individuals are from low-income families, with some parents living with HIV. This program will offer a comprehensive and supportive experience that combines educational, employment, and recreational components tailored to enhance their personal and professional development.
The program aims to fill a critical gap by providing opportunities for the youth to engage in educational activities, gain exposure to potential career paths, and develop the skills necessary for future success. As part of this initiative, participants will visit career offices and colleges and explore entrepreneurial ventures through a business forum designed to teach them how to start a business and plan community events. The program will also facilitate visits to notable cultural institutions, including museums and historical landmarks in New York City, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C. These excursions are designed to broaden their educational horizons and provide enriching experiences outside their local communities.
Key highlights of the program include educational field trips to iconic sites such as the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History, Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, Great Wolf Lodge, and Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom. Additionally, participants will have opportunities for recreational activities, including bowling, skating, and visits to various eateries like Chevys, Golden Corral, and the Capital City of Washington, D.C. The program also features memorable activities such as boat tours, red bus sightseeing tours, and visits to the NY Aquarium and South Street Seaport. These experiences are intended to foster a sense of adventure and curiosity and provide lifelong memories for the participants.
The program will be conducted over July 2025 and the first two weeks of August. It is specifically designed for youth who have not had the opportunity to travel beyond their immediate surroundings. The goal is to offer them an immersive, educational, and recreational experience that contributes to their growth and well-being. The program will be funded through capital allocated for charter bus rentals, museum and theme park admissions, meals, participant gear (such as t-shirts, hats, and backpacks), photographic services, public transportation, and other necessary supplies.
By the end of this program, participants will not only have gained valuable educational insights and career exposure but will also have experienced travel and cultural enrichment that many of them might not have otherwise had access to. This program represents a transformative opportunity for youth to step outside their daily routines, explore new possibilities, and create lasting memories that will contribute to their mental wellness and future success. We are excited to announce our partnership with several nonprofit organizations to ensure that the youth participants in our Mental Wellness Program receive the necessary supervision and guidance throughout their journey. Our extensive experience in working with youth over the years through various summer programs and activities positions us well to deliver a program that addresses the unique needs of these young individuals. We are returning to this important work because of the strong requests from the communities we serve, where many youths have not had the opportunity to access programs that support their dreams and aspirations. With your support, we aim to offer them a chance to explore different aspects of what New York City and beyond have to offer, opening doors to future possibilities.
The focus of our program is to ensure that these youth understand the importance of career paths they are passionate about and to connect them with industries that align with their dreams. We want to introduce them to career opportunities they may not have previously considered, helping them see their potential in various fields. By visiting career offices, meeting professionals, and participating in hands-on activities, they will gain valuable exposure to potential futures. We also intend to foster their connection to higher education. Many of these youth come from homes where education and career development are not readily accessible. We aim to show them that colleges welcome and need them and have a place for them in these institutions. Visiting colleges will allow them to step inside campuses and envision themselves as part of these academic communities, thus expanding their horizons for the future.
A significant part of our program is exposing these youth to diverse experiences—particularly those offering educational and employment opportunities. We believe that summer programs should go beyond passive online tasks and instead provide a mix of recreational, educational, and exploratory activities that allow for authentic personal growth. Many of these youth are not old enough to participate in traditional employment programs and, as a result, are often left out of valuable opportunities. Our program will fill that gap by providing meaningful activities, including career exploration, mental wellness support, and hands-on learning experiences.

Additionally, through mentoring sessions, we will encourage the development of social skills, emotional intelligence, and community-building. The youth will be able to meet peers from other communities, allowing them to build new friendships and connections. These sessions will also address mental wellness by offering tools for coping with difficult situations, building self-esteem, and cultivating resilience. Many of the youth in our program come from challenging backgrounds, and we are committed to supporting them as they work to overcome obstacles, improve their lives, and realize their full potential.
We recognize that many of these youth may have limited access to opportunities that allow them to explore careers, education, and personal growth. This program, in collaboration with our nonprofit partners, aims to address that gap and create transformative opportunities. With your support, we will give them the chance to step outside their comfort zones, experience new environments, and build the skills they need to succeed in life. We are confident that this program will be a life-changing experience for the participants, providing them with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to pursue their dreams and achieve their goals.
