VirginiaNavigator (VirginiaNavigator.org), a Virginia-based, public/private partnership non-profit, provides free health and community support information and guidance to older adults, people with disabilities, veterans, and their caregivers and families through its one-of-a-kind family of websites.
Launched in 2001, our organization originally was focused exclusively on older adults and their caregivers. With its strong and robust infrastructure, SeniorNavigator afforded our organization the opportunity to expand our offerings to additional populations. Now, through our family of websites (disAbilityNavigator.org; SeniorNavigator.org; VeteransNavigator.org) we encourage consumer direction and offer:
*Easy to search database of 26,000+ programs/services
*Local resources include medical, long-term care, legal, financial, transportation, social/recreational, caregiver support, veterans' benefits, and housing services.
*800+ articles to help guide consumers through difficult decision-making processes
*742 "Navigator Centers" developed through partnerships with senior centers, libraries, hospitals, police stations, churches--serving as community access points
*"Ask an Expert" for free, confidential, expert assistance from 61 subject matter experts who provide comfort and answers (case managers, doctors, lawyers, housing experts)
* A chat feature enabling consumers to get 'on the spot' support when they need it most!
An innovative service model combining information technology with community-building, VN brings a "high-tech/high-touch" approach to helping Virginians. By combining 24/7 online assistance and personal help, as well as a network of 740+ community-based Navigator Centers, the VN family of websites brought critical support resources to families over one million times in the last year alone. With a vision of Virginians being educated and empowered to make the best-possible decisions, VN provides an objective, comprehensive look at the options available to help families
