Nutrition for Veterans

by VETERANS RESOURCE PROGRAM

In an effort to provide our veterans with healthy nutritional meals on a consistent basis, the VRP have established the Nutrition for Veterans Project.

Rhonda F. Harris, as the Executive Director of the Veterans Resource Program (VRP), have the privilege of leading our non-profit (501c3) organization in a variety of programs to help many brave men and women who have faithfully served the United States of America in all five branches of the military.

In January 2011, she was inspired to found the Veterans Resource Program (VRP) in Richmond, and San Francisco, (2021) California, to honor her late father, Harry L. Williams, who was a wounded Korean War veteran. The VRP’s mission is to assist veterans with housing services, food, clothing, applying for benefits, educational opportunities to help them find gainful employment and transition back into society. Because most of the veterans we serve are not receiving disability benefits or pension compensation, VRP provides information about available veterans’ resources and assists them with filing and following up on their benefit claims.

We have witnessed the impact and value of veterans who are provided nutritional meals and snacks while in transition. During the shutdown due to the COVID pandemic, VRP was honored to receive donations from Benevity that assisted our veterans with food gift cards. We purchased food cards, purchased food items from Costco for food and nutritional snacks for 27 veterans. Because veterans struggle to make ends meet every month, food and nutritional assistance is one of their most critical needs. Pictures are attached of those veterans who received the gift cards (and some also received roses) and who gave their permission for their photo to be shared with Benevity.

Our veterans need your assistance on a consistent basis to meet their nutritional meals and snacks needs. Most of the veterans we serve are not receiving disability benefits or pension compensation, our veterans struggle to make ends meet every month, food and nutritional assistance is one of their most critical needs. You can help many veterans with a combined monthly donation that equals $700.00 that will provide gift cards and for their much-needed nutritional meals.
